FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA.—Valley Forge Fabrics announced it has donated 300 sets of sheets to the American Red Cross for Haitian earthquake survivors who are being treated for medical conditions in the South Florida area. Valley Forge learned from the American Red Cross that there was a tremendous need for certain supplies for injured and displaced Haitians who have been temporarily relocated to South Florida for medical treatment.

Valley Forge, a leader in sustainable textiles for hospitality, is the only textile company with an established fabric reclamation program. Valley Forge reclaimed 300 sheet sets from a hotel customer made of Tencel + Plus Lyocell Eucalyptus Fiber—a new, innovative, and environmental textile, and provided them to the American Red Cross. Through its partnership with the Red Cross, Valley Forge delivered the products locally to the South Florida community that has taken the majority of the Haitian earthquake victims transported to the United States for urgent medical care.

“The American Red Cross identified an immediate local need here in South Florida relating to the Haiti crisis,” says Diana Dobin, senior vice president of Valley Forge Fabrics. “Our reclamation infrastructure includes taking bedding back from our customers after its useful life, and redistributing to those in need.”

Pillows Also Donated

In addition to the sheets, pillows were also provided for each pillow case. Valley Forge is the exclusive distributor of Louisville Bedding pillows for hospitality. Louisville Bedding paired with Valley Forge and donated pillows for all the pillow cases Valley Forge provided.

“Unknown to most is the need for certain supplies for Haitian humanitarian relief here in South Florida,” says Alicia Miyares, American Red Cross, Broward County Chapter executive. “Valley Forge responded without hesitation. Their supply of these amazing sheets and pillows are helping these displaced people and our local citizens burned out of their homes, feel more comfortable, and aid in their recovery.”

On January 12, a series of earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 6.5 to 7.3 devastated Haiti. The American Red Cross is working with its partners in the global Red Cross and Red Crescent network, including the Haitian Red Cross, and other partners to assist those affected by this disaster. In addition to the agency’s local efforts, the American Red Cross is continuing to send money, supplies and staff to Haiti to support relief efforts there since the earthquake, which caused catastrophic damage and loss of life.
