I attended HD Expo in Las Vegas this past week. The annual trade show featured hundreds of exhibitors, many of which featured green products of note. It would be impossible to mention all of those products here, but the following are some that stood out for recognition. (See complete list of exhibitors on the HD Expo site.)
Coulée Coffee Co. featured The Coulée Swirl, the world’s only self-adapting automated pour-over coffee maker. The compact system captures the pour-over experience with its automated moving swirl-arm, precisely heated water, and intelligently-dispensed water pours. Used with the company’s compostable Vpac filters, the Swirl provides a consistent cup of coffee with the push of a button.
AGIC Energy and its affiliated partner companies develop, own, and operate medium to large-scale renewable energy generation and storage facilities globally, including project development, renewable energy solution products and the offering of energy as a service to off grid and remote locations.
The Gasser Chair Co. displayed examples from many of its chair lines. According to the company’s 2023 Sustainability Report, 73 percent of all raw materials were locally sourced for 2023 projects. The company operated with an 85 percent diversion rate in 2023 and has committed to zero waste by this year.
Santa Luzia featured its baseboard material made from recycled polystyrene. The sturdy material does not rot, is immune to pests and termites, and is water resistant. The company offers other materials as well that are made from recycled polystyrene—crown moldings and slats and battens, for example.
New exhibitor Current Luxury introduced its Helux Solar Motorized umbrella. It utilizes renewable energy through patented solar technology eliminating the need to charge a lithium-ion battery. With lighting included, the umbrella can even be controlled remotely.
Intrinsic Advanced Materials was represented at the Blue Ridge Hotel Textiles booth. Intrinsic Advanced Materials is the company behind CiCLO technology. CiCLO technology allows microbes to treat synthetic fibers like natural fibers. When CiCLO-treated synthetic textiles unavoidably shed microfibers and the fibers ultimately end up in landfills, soil, sea water, and/or waste treatment plants, microbes are attracted to the material and can build functional entities to digest the molecules similarly to how they do with naturally biodegradable materials. In February, Blue Ridge Hotel Textiles announced CiCLO Biodegradable Materials as its core hotel textiles down alternative fiber.
SNOOZ demonstrated its portable white noise product for hotels that utilizes fan technology. SNOOZ raises the baseline level of sound in a room so many noises are completely masked, and others are less startling.
FSorb featured its acoustic products made from recycled plastic bottles that can be used as design elements in hospitality spaces. The products include no VOCs or chemicals.
Exhibitor fil doux textiles highlighted Otratex, a 100 percent biodegradable vinyl. Made to match leather, Otratex breaks down in 30 years, far faster than traditional vinyl.
One company that caught the attention of many was MSCAPES. The company had one of its glamping structures on display. MSCAPES offers turn-key glamping packages to meet the needs of any clientele. Packages include tent or micro-home structures with interior schemes available for assorted markets. The company offers architecture, zoning, and planning expertise. Its structures are designed with Mother Earth in mind.
GRANORTE was at HD Expo with its coverings made from cork. For floor or walls, the coverings bring the design elements of nature to the fore. Similarly, the Serge Ferrari Group featured upholstery solutions for indoor and outdoor furniture with 47 percent bio-based content.
Navien, a leader in condensing tankless water heaters, was at the show with product examples including its NPE-A2 and NPE-S2 models. According to the company, thanks to using 1/2″ gas pipe and 2″ PVC venting, one can install a Navien tankless water heater in about half the time as competitive tankless heaters.
Among its many amenity choices, LATHER featured its Landscapes Collection. Now available to hotels nationwide, this line prioritizes natural, ethically sourced ingredients packaged in 100 Percent Ocean Bound Plastic. “Hotels are constantly seeking ways to enhance guest satisfaction while minimizing their environmental footprint,” says LATHER founder Emilie Hoyt. “Our Landscapes Collection perfectly aligns with these goals, offering both an unparalleled guest experience and a commitment to sustainability.”
Vertically Green featured its Vistafolia Green Wall Panels and other products to bring greenery into a space. Vistafolia panels are packed with lush, varied foliage that creates a biophilic, natural look. Thanks to a unique three-panel system, one can expect seamless coverage with no joint lines or repeated patterns.
