FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA.—Valley Forge Fabrics has introduced its first faux leather collection protected by Nano-Tex technology. Executives from Valley Forge and Applied Textiles recently met in Southern China to tour the newly opened state-of-the-art facility dedicated to performance enhancement. The factory was built specifically to better support the growing demand for Nano-Tex.

Nano-Tex technology has usually been applied to woven fabrics, increasing their stain repellency characteristics. Now, as a result of the partnership between Valley Forge and Applied Textiles, nanotechnology-based textile enhancements are available on faux leathers in the hospitality interiors market. Valley Forge is the first company that has worked with Nano-Tex to incorporate the high performance nanotechnology into the faux leather, and build permanent spill and stain resistance into the structure of the vinyl.

Nano-Tex bonds with the fibers, protecting the material at the atomic level from dirt without depriving it of air. Old techniques encase fabric in thick layers of chemicals. Use after use, the new technology protects the natural beauty of faux leather, improves abrasion performance, stays on the product throughout its entire life, and is environmentally friendly. Nano-Tex finish is also lighter on the environment because it uses significantly less chemistry than traditional coating technologies.

‘Perfect’ Production Location

“Industry lead time requirements have shrunk dramatically—while the trend for better and longer enduring decorative faux leathers is growing,” says Diana Dobin, president of Valley Forge. “Congratulations to Applied Textiles for positioning this incredible facility at exactly the right time and in the perfect production location.”

Valley Forge uses a combination of materials to create faux leathers that look and feel like the world’s most luxurious hides, yet they are more durable, easier to work with and easier to clean. The existing faux leather collection with Nano-Tex has more than 130 items. In product development now is a new Valley Forge collection spanning two additional volumes that will debut in fall 2012. These 54” flame resistant faux leathers have the look and feel of real leather and are made with commercial upholstery applications in mind—exceeding 350,000 double rubs, NFPA 260 and all other requirements for heavy duty contract upholstery use. The products will include 100 percent post-consumer recycled backing.
