As I am writing this, I am counting down the hours to the opening of the HX: The Hotel Experience and Boutique Design New York (BDNY) trade shows. Both will be held November 11 to 12 at the Javits Center in New York City. I will be attending both shows. Be sure to watch for a wrap-up of both shows in the coming week.

Those of you attending this year’s HX show will find a new conference that will overlap the show’s hours. One of the conference sessions is entitled, “Please, Not Another Sustainability Pitch… Join the Debate!” Educational sessions will also be held on the trade show floor. For example, on Monday, November 12 from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. I will moderate a session entitled, “Electric Vehicle Charging Stations—Best Practices in Implementation.” Panel speakers will include: Rishi Shah, Managing Member, AspirEnergy; Rock Henderson, Managing Member, GoSpace LLC; and Charles R. Goulding, President, Energy Tax Savers, Attorney & CPA.

Of course one of the best parts of attending these annual dual shows is the opportunity to learn about new products and services that can help you design and operate your properties more sustainably. At press time there were 283 exhibitors registered for HX and 709 at BDNY for a total of almost 1,000 exhibitors. Together, HX and BDNY are certainly one of our industry’s largest events of the year.

Shows like HX and BDNY offer an opportunity to not only learn about how to run your hotel more sustainably; they also are a great opportunity to learn how to run your property more profitably while improving the guest and employee experience. A quick scan of the companies exhibiting this year revealed experts in the following areas: guestroom energy management, amenities, mattress and pillow encasements, laundry and foodservice equipment, heating and cooling systems, electric vehicle charging, air purification, cleaning and maintenance, linens, lighting, floor coverings, waste management and more. Learning about just one money-saving product can easily justify your investment in attending the shows.

One of the things to watch as it relates to HX and BDNY in the months to come is the change in ownership of HX and BDNY. Just a few weeks ago, Emerald Expositions Events, Inc. acquired HX and BDNY along with other assets from ST Media Group International (“ST Media”) and Hospitality Media Group (“HMG”). Emerald is also the owner of Hospitality Design magazine and HD Expo. Stay tuned…

How to Search on Our Website

Like other search engines you find online, a search using one word will produce articles with that word included. If you would like to search for something that is more than one word long—ozone laundry, for example—you will need to put quotation marks around the words or phrase. Ozone laundry would then be “ozone laundry” in the search.
