Here in late October, the trade show/conference season is heating up quickly with the Global Wellness Summit in Tel Aviv from October 31 to November 3, Greenbuild in San Francisco from November 1 to 3, and the HX: The Hotel Experience and Boutique Design New York (BDNY) trade shows from November 13 to 14. I will be attending HX and BDNY.

The Global Wellness Summit will have a packed agenda and deservedly so. Globally, the business of wellness is worth $4.4 trillion. There will be 30+ keynotes and panels including one panel focused on the “Future of Travel, Hospitality & Spa.” Neil Jacobs, CEO, Six Senses, will be one of the panelists exploring the future of wellness travel. Six Senses is certainly a global leader when it comes to incorporating sustainability into its resorts. As of mid-October, leaders in wellness from 50 nations had registered.

At Greenbuild, two notable keynoters will be actress and activist Jane Fonda and Dr. Jean Rogers, Senior Managing Director, and Blackstone’s Global Head of ESG. Currently, Fonda continues to lead the charge on Fire Drill Fridays, the national movement to protest government inaction on climate change she started in October 2019 in partnership with Greenpeace USA. Rogers oversees Blackstone’s corporate ESG team and partners with business unit heads of ESG and asset management teams to advance ESG initiatives and integration across portfolio companies and assets. Hospitality is well represented in Blackstone’s real estate portfolio.

In an article this past week I summarized the sessions at HX and BDNY that have anything to do with sustainability/corporate social responsibility. The two shows together will feature approximately 600 different exhibiting brands, many of which will be focused on saving energy and water, reducing waste, and improving indoor air quality.

Focus on Human Trafficking

At HX there will be a Sunday, November 13 session focused on “What to Know Now to Prevent and End Human Trafficking.” The following is that session’s description: “Awareness of human trafficking starts with two foundational elements: prevention of human trafficking and protection of exploited persons. In a session from The Blue Campaign, learn what’s critical now to end human trafficking and reduce victimization within vulnerable populations—especially regarding hospitality.” At press time the speaker from The Blue Campaign was yet to be determined.

On Sunday, November 13 at BDNY, the session Bridging the Gap: ESG and Hotel Sustainability, will be held. The panelists will include: JoAnna Abrams, CEO, MindClick Inc., Denise Naguib, Global Vice President, Sustainability and Supplier Diversity, Marriott International; Sarah Enaharo, Director of Global Sustainability, Floor Covering Division, Milliken & Co., and Don Haynes, Environmental/Sustainability Manager.

Other BDNY sessions will touch on wellness, healthy travel, “Nurturing Nature in Cities,” “Rise of Reuse: Strategies to Create Engaging and Sustainable Hospitality Experiences,” and “ESG: Why Impact Matters More Than Ever.”

On Sunday, the NEWH Green Voice Competition: Sustainable Scholarship Presentation will take place.

Get in the Green Suppliers Spotlight!

Green Lodging News, lodging’s leading environmental news source, publishes Green Suppliers Spotlight, an e-blast to 19,364 subscribers that features the lodging industry’s leading green products and services. The e-blast features multiple vendors—unlike the current Green Supplier Spotlight that allows one supplier to “own” the Green Lodging News subscriber list for one e-blast. (Click here for a Green Suppliers Spotlight sample.)

Green Suppliers Spotlight is published weekly on Thursdays to general managers, owners, management companies, directors of sustainability, directors of engineering, facilities managers and many others who are either in purchasing positions or who influence purchasing decisions. Suppliers of green products and services throughout North America and beyond are invited to participate in the e-blast. (Minimum two suppliers per e-blast.) Green Suppliers Spotlight was created to give vendors an opportunity to reach a high number of industry purchasers at a very low cost—as low as $135 per e-mail. (Click here for rate sheet.)

Those advertising in Green Suppliers Spotlight can include up to 100 words, one image, contact information and multiple links to their website in their ad. On a weekly basis, a report is sent to each supplier with information on delivered e-mails, opens and click-throughs.
