Sessions at 2022 HX: The Hotel Experience & Boutique Design New York Reflect Changing Times

NEW YORK—HX: The Hotel Experience and Boutique Design New York (BDNY) will be back at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from November 13 to 14. The two concurrent shows will together feature approximately 600 different exhibiting brands, many of which will be focused on saving energy and water, reducing waste, and improving indoor air quality.

Both shows will offer educational opportunities as well. At HX there will be a Sunday, November 13 session focused on “What to Know Now to Prevent and End Human Trafficking.” The following is that session’s description: “Awareness of human trafficking starts with two foundational elements: prevention of human trafficking and protection of exploited persons. In a session from The Blue Campaign, learn what’s critical now to end human trafficking and reduce victimization within vulnerable populations—especially regarding hospitality. As a national public awareness campaign designed to educate the public, law enforcement, and other industry partners to recognize the indicators of human trafficking, and how to appropriately respond to possible cases, The Blue Campaign is located within the Department of Homeland Securities (DHS) Office of Partnership and Engagement and aligned with the DHS Center for Countering Human Trafficking.”

During BDNY, one session will focus on wellness on Sunday, November 13. “Wellness Today: What Matters Most,” will feature Kane Sarhan, Co-founder & CCO, The Well; Stacey Greene, Generis Collective; and Christopher Heuisler, Senior Brand Manager, Westin Hotels & Resorts.

Also, on Sunday at BDNY, the session Bridging the Gap: ESG and Hotel Sustainability, will be held. The panelists will include: JoAnna Abrams, CEO, MindClick Inc., Denise Naguib, Global Vice President, Sustainability and Supplier Diversity, Marriott International; Sarah Enaharo, Director of Global Sustainability, Floor Covering Division, Milliken & Co., and Don Haynes, Environmental/Sustainability Manager.

The Future of Hospitality and Healthy Travel

On Monday, November 14, the following BDNY session will be held: “The Future of Hospitality and Healthy Travel.” Panelists will include Kathryn Greene, Associate Editor, HD Magazine, Philipp Mirow, Senior Director, Butterfly; and Joe Cannon, Vice President of Business Development, HyperIce.

Also on Monday at BDNY, the session “Nurturing Nature in Cities” will be held. Panelists will include Brad Zuger, Studio Leader, Senior Associate, Rockwell Group; Derek Gagne, Principal, EDSA; and Katie Kervin, Senior Managing Editor, Boutique Design Magazine.

Later on Monday, attendees can attend “ESG: Why Impact Matters More Than Ever.” Panelists will include Cheryl Heisterberg, Partner, DAC Art Consulting; Michael Chen, Principal, Michael K. Chen Architecture; Aaron Anderson, Co-founder, The 26 Co.; B. Sanborn, DLR Group; Lisa Britz, Director of Workplace Design, LinkedIn; and Sonya Haffey, Principal, V Starr.

The BDNY session “Element Student Design Charette: Green From the Ground Up” will feature Stacy Shoemaker Rauen, Editor in chief, Hospitality Design magazine; Laurie Woliung, Senior Director, Global Design, US and Canada, Marriott International; Marlon Whyte, Global Leader, AC Hotels by Marriott, Element by Westin Hotels, Marriott International; Cassandra Buffano, The Society; and Alexandra Joset, Senior Global Brand Manager, Marriott International.
