MONTEREY, CALIF.—As one of Monterey’s top rated, bayside hotels, the Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay offers more than its scenic seaside respite to business travelers and adventurers alike. They offer exclusive accommodations and services, all while supporting sustainability.

The LEED Certified Portola Hotel & Spa has a history of supporting the environment and has participated in several programs dedicated to conserving environmental resources. At Portola Hotel & Spa, guestrooms offer a variety of environmentally conscious amenities and features. Rooms are equipped with LED lighting, Energy Star televisions and mini refrigerators, low flow faucets, showerheads, toilets and urinals, bath amenity products made from renewable and biodegradable materials, as well as hypoallergenic and organic mattresses.

As part of Portola’s ongoing commitment to implementing green initiatives throughout every facet of their operations, they have recently re-invested in NuTek’s Ozone Laundry Support Systems (OLSS) in their on-premises laundry.

Customer for More Than 10 Years

As one of California’s first hotels to make this investment in ozone, Portola has continued to provide its hotel guests with superior sanitation. “NuTek has provided us with their cutting-edge Ozone Laundry Support Systems for more than ten years and we have seen amazing results in both the cleanliness of our linen/terry and significant energy savings” offered Troy Reil, Director of Rooms for Portola Hotel & Spa.

NuTek’s UL Recognized ozone technology saves on water, sewer, gas, electric and laundry chemicals for each load of light to medium soiled linens processed. It has been third party tested and proven to extend linen life by 23 percent which also saves on linen replacement costs. It has also been specifically tested and proven to kill 99.99 percent of all bacteria and viruses, including most recently the CDC’s Nine Top Superbugs. Rinsing all linens in ozonated cold water assures superior sanitation, from guestroom sheets and towels to housekeeping rags and mops.

Jay Montanus, CEO of Sustainable Solutions, LLC, dba NuTek International, stated, “We’ve enjoyed supporting Portola’s commitment to sustainability and improving their laundry operations since 2009. We applaud them and other long-time customers who see the value of their environmental awareness literally drop to their bottom line.”
