ORLANDO, FLA.—Clean the World, the now 10-year-old organization that has distributed more than 48 million bars of recycled hotel soap in 127 countries, has launched an online Customer Portal to streamline the process of collecting soap and amenity bottles from its more than 8,000 hotel and resort partners around the world.

Through the portal, accessible on any device, Clean the World partners can order replacement bins, print shipping labels, learn about Clean the World programs, manage users, receive updates on Clean the World Foundation’s WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) programming and emergency response efforts, and access a video and image gallery. Portal users can also get real-time feedback on how much soap they have collected, how many pounds of plastic amenity bottles they have recycled, and how many bars of soap have been distributed. Clean the World partners need only complete a form on the Portal to receive the log-in information for their property.

Shawn Seipler, founder and CEO, Clean the World, says the ultimate vision for the Portal is for it to be an engagement tool for corporate social responsibility (CSR)—“a one stop shop for CSR.”

“It will be a used as a communication tool for responding to disasters,” Seipler says. “We needed a better way to bring everyone together.”

More Than 60 Percent of Partners on the Portal

The transition to the Portal has been strong so far with several Hilton brands 100 percent converted. More than 60 percent of all hotel and resort partners are using the Portal and spending an average of 5.5 minutes per session in it. “By the end of this year, we will have about 80 to 85 percent participation,” Seipler says. “It really allows us to grow more efficiently and drive costs downward.

The Portal and technology improvements such as bin barcoding are helping Clean the World become more efficient as it continues to expand globally. “We are opening in Mainland China right now,” Seipler says. “We already have our first hotels secure. We just launched a new production facility in Amsterdam.” A soap museum will be part of the Amsterdam location.

Clean the World has long had a hygiene kit program to help the homeless, disaster victims and others with soap and other needed hygiene items. Seipler says Clean the World has recently created a disaster relief bucket that will include a tumbler donated by Tupperware, water purification tablets, blanket and other items.
