NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO—Moen, a leading faucet brand, has been selected as a 2011 WaterSense Excellence Award winner by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The company was chosen for this honor based on its significant efforts to advance the WaterSense mission through participation and collaboration in promotional events. The award was accepted earlier this month by Andrea Maher, senior marketing communications specialist, Moen, at the WaterSmart Innovations Conference and Expo in Las Vegas.

“Moen is honored to be recognized by the EPA for the strides that we have made to promote and encourage water conservation,” said Mike Bauer, president, U.S. Businesses, Moen Inc. “Through our development of a robust Eco-Performance product portfolio, as well as impactful promotional and event support, we are helping to conserve water for future generations.”

To demonstrate the company’s commitment to raising awareness for the WaterSense program, Moen initiated significant promotional events and messaging directed toward media, consumers, trade professionals and associates. In addition, Moen supported WaterSense awareness campaigns, including “We’re for Water” and “Fix a Leak Week.”

“Since 2006, WaterSense and our many partners have helped Americans save 125 billion gallons of water and more than $2 billion in water and energy bills,” said Nancy Stoner, EPA’s Acting Assistant Administrator for Water.

Products Meet WaterSense Criteria

Moen’s involvement with WaterSense extends beyond promotional and event support. All Moen lavatory faucets for residential and multi-family applications are certified to meet WaterSense criteria. In addition, Moen became one of the first manufacturers on the market to offer products certified to meet new 2010 WaterSense criteria for showerheads. Today, Moen continues to introduce WaterSense-labeled faucets, as well as showerheads that represent every category in Moen’s showering portfolio—including wall-mount, rainshower and hand shower models.

Moen also recently introduced Eco-Performance retail kitchen faucets that allow users the option to easily switch between three unique water-flow settings. For everyday tasks that require constant, yet low-water flow, such as washing dishes or preparing foods, one can choose new eco-performance standard stream or aerated spray modes. These settings provide a reduced flow rate of 1.75 gallons per minute (gpm), which translates to up to a 32 percent water savings. However, for tasks that require a set amount of water, such as filling a pot or pitcher—users can switch to the fast-fill mode, which flows at the standard 2.2 gpm rate.

“At Moen, we are constantly developing new products that provide a significant water savings without sacrificing performance, while finding ways to reduce our own environmental footprint,” Bauer said.
