LOS ANGELES—McGraw-Hill Construction has launched a new magazine dedicated to the growing market for environmentally responsible green buildings. “GreenSource, The Magazine of Sustainable Design” will present news, features, case studies of important projects, and green product information to more than 40,000 architects, interior designers, building owners, and members of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

McGraw-Hill Construction editors will collaborate on GreenSource and the related Web site with editors from BuildingGreen Inc.—an information company that provides green product information and policy analysis for building industry professionals and policy makers. BuildingGreen editors will assist with editorial content, green product information, and Web-specific content. BuildingGreen publishes “Environmental Building News,” “GreenSpec Directory,” which contains more than 2,000 green building products, and “Green Building Products.”

“The commercial green building market is expected to become a $10 to $20 billion industry within the next five years,” says James H. McGraw IV, group publisher at McGraw-Hill Construction. “Adding residential green construction brings the potential market up to $60 billion by 2010. Building professionals have a growing need for more information on green building products and projects, and building owners have a need to connect with architects, designers and builders who can help them build environmentally responsible buildings. Together with the credibility and resources of BuildingGreen, we can produce a magazine and online resources which will set the standard as the premier information source for the green building market.”

The GreenSource Web site’s focus will be on sustainability for the built environment and will be linked to McGraw-Hill Construction’s primary online portal, plus the sites for “Architectural Record” and “Engineering New-Record,” as well as BuildingGreen’s Web site.

GreenSource will be published twice in 2006. It premiered at the American Institute of Architects convention on June 8, and will be published in October prior to the USGBC’s GreenBuild Conference and Expo held Nov. 15-17 in Denver. McGraw-Hill Construction will also produce the Conference and Expo Guide. Additional issues of GreenSource are expected to be added in 2007.
