MILWAUKEE—Telkonet, Inc., developer of the EcoSmart energy management platform, announced that it will begin installation of its new EcoSmart Suite in Marriott’s Ann Arbor Hotel at Eagle Crest, located in Ypsilanti, Mich., owned by Long & Cox Properties. Prior to this energy efficiency upgrade, the property completely renovated guestrooms and other areas of the facilities and is now embarking on a comprehensive upgrade to significantly improve the energy efficiency of the property.

Keen Technical Solutions, a Traverse City, Mich.-based company with a focus on energy conservation strategies and alternative energy integration, is the prime contractor on this project and will perform a turnkey lighting upgrade of the property. Keen has selected Telkonet to install its EcoSmart products within each guestroom and suite throughout the property. The property is owned by Long and Cox Properties, Inc. of Atlanta, a group that focuses on the development and renovation of InterContinental, Hilton, Marriott and Starwood brand hotels throughout the country.

Telkonet’s networked EcoSmart platform is designed to minimize the facility’s energy consumption while maximizing guest comfort and will be installed in 232 luxury rooms and suites, complementing many other green initiatives already implemented at the property. Telkonet will provide a turnkey installation of the EcoWave product package wirelessly networked to Telkonet’s cloud-based EcoCentral management platform via a Zigbee infrastructure, which is expected to reduce in-room energy consumption and equipment run-time by 38 percent.

The EcoSmart network is designed to automatically adjust the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems when rooms are unoccupied via Telkonet’s patented Recovery Time technology and enhance guest comfort through integration with the existing property management system. The Web-based system enables remote monitoring of room temperatures and proactive troubleshooting of HVAC equipment from any Web-enabled device or computer including iPads and smartphones.

“We are excited to have been selected to perform this upgrade for Keen Technical Solutions in combination with Orion Energy Systems lighting retrofits, and are confident this is the first of what will be many more projects we perform with them,” said Jason Tienor, CEO, Telkonet, Inc. “Our value proposition is increasingly being validated by systems integrators and Telkonet’s technology leadership sets the stage for a strong performance in 2011.”
