VANCOUVER, B.C.—Research has confirmed that a growing number of travelers select their hotels based partly on sustainable practices, with green certification being the single most important factor affecting their choice. “One of the major concerns among environmentally conscious guests is the waste of soap, shampoo, conditioner and other amenities in hotel bathrooms,” says Susan Howard Memory, President and Creative Director of JRS Amenities Ltd. and creator of the Mosaic Dispensing Solution (MOSAIC).

According to the American Hotel & Lodging Assn., it is estimated that more than 500,000 amenity shampoo bottles and 2.5 million bars of marginally-used soap from hotel guestrooms end up in North American landfills every day.

“Waste is simply no longer acceptable,” Memory said. “Guests want to stay at hotels that demonstrate concern for our environment and one of the best ways to do that is to cut down on single-use amenities. Yet only 5 to 10 percent of North American guestrooms use amenity dispensers today. Hotel operators have told us the main reason is because they are unhappy with the quality and appearance of dispensers currently available.”

In response to demand from luxury hotels and cruise-lines that want to do the right thing but in an aesthetically pleasing way, JRS Amenities designed, patented and introduced MOSAIC—a superior-quality dispenser that offers both style and sustainable performance. MOSAIC can live within any luxury bathroom environment as it offers a range of colors, textures and etching to match any amenity brand or décor. It can also be easily installed, locked, removed, refilled, exchanged, and cleaned.

Listel Hotel Success Story

“Our property has struggled to find the right countertop and wall-mounted dispensers for several years, with little success,” says Nancy Faria, Housekeeping Manager for the Listel Hotel, Vancouver, B.C. “JRS Amenities’ newly developed line of bathroom amenity dispensers is incomparable in terms of value and style, and the customizable appearance will make a wonderful addition to our property.”

“As a luxury boutique hotel, guests expect a certain standard in our rooms, and our goal is to exceed their expectations,” adds Scot Hopps, Environmental Program Manager for The Lenox Hotel in Boston. “JRS Amenities’ functional and aesthetically-pleasing amenity dispenser is far better than anything we’ve seen or sampled before. The design has put to rest concerns of contamination and the appearance provides a sleek, yet customizable area to ensure that we can keep our bathrooms a notch above those of our competitors.”

Memory points out that switching to MOSAIC can help hoteliers meet their triple bottom line responsibility to people, planet and profit by enabling significant environmental, operational and financial advantages. For example, a hotel can reduce its amenity cost up to 50 percent in the first year by switching from disposable bottles and bar soap to MOSAIC.

Luxury amenity brands available for use with MOSAIC include Acca Kappa, Borghese, Co Bigelow, Comfort Zone, CULTI, Deserving Thyme, Lydeha, Malin+Goetz, skoah, and VRAI by Fragonard Perfumer, among others.
