LAS VEGAS—Green Chips, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing Nevada’s sustainability identity, has launched a Community Web Portal to inspire collaborative initiatives among Southern Nevada’s businesses, municipalities, organizations and citizens. The site will also function as a resource for individuals and businesses looking to be informed on, and connect with all areas of sustainability.
“Sustainability is a multifaceted subject and all areas need to be represented to help our community grow,” said Rick Van Diepen, Executive Director of Green Chips. “We have developed this community portal, with underwriting from the Caesars Foundation, to become the pre-eminent resource for businesses and individuals looking to plug into collaborative community initiatives and serve as a robust front door for all things sustainable—energy, economic development, water, transportation, public health and much more.”
The initial launch of the site in mid/late October 2013 will allow residents and businesses to access up-to-date resources, educational and incentive programs, and a customizable community calendar, listing all sustainability-related events that can be sorted by individual interest areas. The portal is being designed to help individuals connect quickly with the programs and information they want, while assisting organizations in driving more traffic to their specific programs.
Site Meant to be Interactive
Environmentally minded residents and their colleagues, counterparts and professional associates can contribute activities, events and programs to be considered for inclusion on the community calendar, by sending an email to info@greenchips.org.
During phase II of the project, slated for completion in March 2014, additional resources on health and wellness, transportation and an interactive educational section for students K to 12 will come online. The education section will boast lesson plans, science projects and other tools to teach the next generation how to be more environmentally friendly and appreciate the outdoors.
The Green Chips Community Web Portal is the brainchild of the nonprofit’s working groups that consist of valley sustainability executives and community leaders. During its inaugural Convene For Green Summit in 2011, members identified the need to have an online space where ideas, successes and resources could be shared with everyone. Shortly thereafter, funding for the creation of the site received major underwriting by the Caesars Foundation.
