Historic Migis Lodge in South Casco, Maine Now Powered by 912-Panel Solar Array

SOUTH CASCO, MAINE—Migis Lodge opened in June in South Casco, Maine. The property is powered by solar energy. The century-old vacation destination—a lodge and 35 cottages on Sebago Lake—is offsetting 95 percent of its annual electrical power needs with a 912-paneled solar array. To conserve the pine forest on the 125-acre property, Revision Energy designed an off-site solution in a former gravel pit.

“Migis Lodge is committed to the environment and sustainability,” said Jed Porta, General Manager for Migis Lodge and Managing Partner for Migis Hotel Group, a family-run, Maine-based hotel management company. “Our guests will have one more reason to enjoy their vacations with us knowing that we are doing what we can to respect Maine’s natural resources by using renewable energy.”

By net metering their array’s solar power generation, Migis Lodge will be able to offset the LED lights and electric heating of their cottages, as well as the electrical needs of their kitchen and laundry services.

“The 314-kilowatt solar array will greatly reduce Migis Lodge’s carbon footprint and offset 610,753 pounds of carbon annually,” said Nick Sampson, a Commercial Solar Consultant at ReVision Energy. “We are proud of their environmental commitment, and I’m glad we partnered on this project to achieve their clean energy business goals.”

Migis Lodge sits on 125 acres of pine tree-covered land on Sebago Lake. ReVision Energy found a solution in an off-site property in a former gravel pit in Rockland. Ground-mounted solar panels are ideal for locations that have restrictions on new construction, and so the array has given new life to unused space in the heart of Rockland. The project came online at the beginning of the year and will power Migis Lodge’s electrical needs throughout the upcoming summer seasons for the next 40 years, which is the solar array life expectancy.
