PORTLAND, ORE.—The Green Meeting Industry Council announced the addition of Tamara Kennedy-Hill as its new Executive Director. “We are pleased Tamara will be leading the Council into its next phase of development,” said Amy Spatrisano, GMIC Board Chair. “The current rate of growth the Council is experiencing requires a strong, knowledgeable leader like Tamara. She has been involved in the organization in various capacities and is very familiar with the issues facing the organization and the state of green meetings in the industry.”

Kennedy-Hill has more than 10 years experience in the meetings and hospitality industry. Her most recent position was convention sales manager for Travel Portland with a focus on the green meetings market. At Travel Portland, Tamara co-founded a green team and was a spokesperson at several national and regional conferences on greening the hospitality and meetings industry.

In 2005, Tamara was awarded the Convention Service Manager of the Year by Successful Meetings and the Association for Convention Operations Management (ACOM) for “exceptional service to meetings.” Prior to commencing her role as Executive Director, she served as program chair for the 2007 and 2008 “Greening the Hospitality Industry” conferences hosted by the Green Meeting Industry Council.

“We are at the tipping point for the meetings industry to embrace clear standards for green meetings” Kennedy-Hill said. “It is truly a dynamic time to be involved in GMIC. The Council is in a strong position to take the lead in providing quality education, resources and networks for meeting professionals seeking to hold environmentally responsible meetings and events. Building awareness about the importance of green meetings, unifying the growth of the organization and promoting standards development will be critical focus areas for me in the next few months.”
