PHOENIX—Phoenix-based Easy Energy has just announced the completed installation of a solar water heating system at the newly renovated Holiday Inn North Phoenix. The solar water heating system is designed to harvest and store 3,000 gallons of solar heated water each day for the hotel’s 174 guestrooms.

“Solar Water Heating is an effective and reliable renewable technology for the Phoenix climate,” says Brian Bartel, managing member of Easy Energy. “Solar water heating can easily compete with natural gas for heating water by partnering with local suppliers, capturing state utility rebates and engaging financiers who seek to invest in renewable technology.”

The solar thermal collectors and storage tanks were manufactured by Big Solar, Inc., also located in Phoenix. “The proximity of our suppliers to the end user site definitely contributed to the affordability of the solar thermal installation,” says Bartel.

Mike Patel, principal of Bel Aire Hospitality, which operates the Holiday Inn North Phoenix, says he is pleased with the low-profile installation of the rooftop collectors and the three 1,000-gallon storage tanks which comprise the bulk of the system. “It is important to save money and be environmentally conscious, and it helps that we can do that while preserving the Holiday Inn brand image,” Patel says.
