MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA—Concept Amenities announced that Gary Coward will be a speaker and presenter at the Environmental Plastics Solutions Conference, September 20 to 21, 2010 at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, Calif.

The two-day conference, which will feature technology innovators and scientists, will explore the latest developments in plastics sustainability, biodegradation testing, international demand and competition, legislation, developments in biodigestors and plastics of the future.

President of sales, and company co-founder at Concept Amenities, Coward will represent the manufacturing sector of the hospitality industry, long considered a sizeable contributor to landfill waste. As a leading supplier of hotel toiletries, Coward plans to address the problems caused by 3.5 billion plastic hotel amenity bottles accumulating in landfill each year from the United States alone and discuss Concept Amenities’ environmental solutions.

Eco Pure Included in Amenity Bottles

“Companies everywhere are coming to the realization that if they aren’t part of the environmental solution, then they’re part of the problem,” Coward says. “We’re now manufacturing our guest amenities with Eco Pure, an organic-based additive that allows plastic to biodegrade in landfill in a few years.”

Coward goes on to explain that in their search for Eco Pure, Concept Amenities considered compostable packaging but quickly found there were few industrial composting facilities that would accept PLA and PSM materials and most were located in California; not a good solution for East Coast hotels whose bottom line would be significantly affected by disposal costs alone.

“Our company mandate is to continually research and develop the greenest hotel amenities available today and tomorrow,” Coward says. “We’ve recently implemented a program that encourages employees to green their personal lives with rewards for the best suggestions and implementation. Caring about the future of our planet is a mindset. It’s not enough to talk the talk; you have walk the walk—every day in every way.”
