I will be attending HD Expo from May 15 to 17 at the Mandalay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The trade show and conference are among the best annual events for the design community and others to find everything from furniture to artwork—from companies that take sustainability to heart.

For the first time in its history, this year’s HD Expo will have a Wellness Pavilion. Curated by Hospitality Design magazine, in partnership with the Well Building Institute and NEWH, seven sessions will delve into what wellness means for the hospitality industry, showcasing not only big brands integrating wellness and sustainability, but also the upstarts redefining the market. The global wellness industry is now $4.2 trillion and growing.

One of the most intriguing wellness sessions—the keynote—slated for the first morning of HD Expo, will feature Clodagh, founder of Clodagh Design, Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses Hotels Resorts, Thomas Klein, President/COO of Canyon Ranch, Jaloyn Fockler, Executive Vice President, Delos, and Stacy Shoemaker Rauen, Vice President, Hospitality Design Group, and Editor in Chief of Hospitality Design Magazine.

Two Green Voice Sessions

In addition to the Wellness Pavilion, NEWH will host two Green Voice sessions with sustainability experts. They will take place on Thursday, May 16. The sessions include: The New Luxury: Purpose-filled Experiences; and Embodied Carbon: A Rapid Solution to Mitigating Climate Change.

Among the hundreds of exhibitors will be many exhibiting for the first time. Here are just some of the first-time exhibitors that touch sustainability in one way or another:

Porter Barn Wood—Porter Barn Wood and its subsidiary companies Porter Iron Works and Our Block Co. provide unique materials and custom fabrication for commercial and residential applications. They manufacture and supply reclaimed wood, live edge slabs, fabricated steel products, formed concrete breeze blocks, and other unique products.

Able Services—Able Services provides engineering, janitorial, energy, sustainability, sourcing, and project management services.

Navien, Inc.—Navien’s high efficiency and eco-friendly condensing technology can reduce energy consumption by 20 percent and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Navien condensing tankless water heaters and condensing boilers solve issues of reliability, durability, operating efficiency, energy and water conservation.

Plant with Purpose—Many rural farmers cut down their trees to sell for cash when things get desperate. Sadly, trees are a key component in turning things around. Plant With Purpose works with farmers to plant trees and teach sustainable agriculture. Plant With Purpose has planted more than 30 million trees.

LED Power Inc.—LED Power is a leader in LED innovation and high-end manufacturing. LED Power provides a wide range of products for industrial, commercial, and architectural applications. It specializes in custom designs for the most challenging lighting designs and environments. Its effective optics allow its products to direct the lumen output exactly where needed in the case, thus accomplishing a brighter, more even illumination with even less power than a standard LED.

Garden on the Wall—Garden on the Wall is an award-winning provider of turn-key, maintenance-free garden installations exclusively for interiors. The company helps achieve its client’s biophilic design aspirations while eliminating all hassles of maintaining a living wall or plants (an automatic time and investment savings).

GrassTex—GrassTex is a leading U.S. manufacturer of synthetic turf for commercial and residential landscaping, putting greens, dog parks/kennels, poolside applications, sports training, rooftops, and much more. GrassTex has been making quality synthetic turf since 1976. Synthetic turf requires no pesticides or harmful chemicals, no mowing, no watering.

Living Canopies—The Living Umbrella is the world’s first and only patio-styled umbrella that uses flowering plants to shade and protect people naturally. Its smart, solar powered irrigation system makes care simple and easy. The Living Umbrella is patent-pending in the United States and European Union.

How to Search on Our Website

Like other search engines you find online, a search using one word will produce articles with that word included. If you would like to search for something that is more than one word long—ozone laundry, for example—you will need to put quotation marks around the words or phrase. Ozone laundry would then be “ozone laundry” in the search.

Who is Your Sustainability Champion?

Green Lodging News is currently in need of industry experts to contribute occasional guest columns. Experts may include consultants, architects, designers, suppliers and those who own or operate green lodging establishments. An All-New Advertising Opportunity!

Green Lodging News, lodging’s leading environmental news source, announces the launch of Green Suppliers Spotlight, an e-blast to 19,140 subscribers that features the lodging industry’s leading green products and services. The e-blast features multiple vendors—unlike the current Green Supplier Spotlight that allows one supplier to “own” the Green Lodging News subscriber list for one e-blast. (Click here for a Green Suppliers Spotlight sample.)

Green Suppliers Spotlight is published weekly on Thursdays to general managers, owners, management companies, directors of sustainability, directors of engineering, facilities managers and many others who are either in purchasing positions or who influence purchasing decisions. Suppliers of green products and services throughout North America and beyond are invited to participate in the e-blast. (Minimum two suppliers per e-blast.) Green Suppliers Spotlight was created to give vendors an opportunity to reach a high number of industry purchasers at a very low cost—as low as $200 per e-mail. (Click here for rate sheet.)

Those advertising in Green Suppliers Spotlight can include up to 100 words, one image, contact information and multiple links to their website in their ad. At the end of each month, a report will be sent to each supplier with information on delivered e-mails, opens and click-throughs. The Green Suppliers Spotlight e-blast will also be available in the Suppliers Spotlight Archive section of the Green Lodging News website.
