SANTA CLARA, CALIF.—Watt Stopper/Legrand announced a companywide initiative to make all aspects of the organization more environmentally friendly. President Jerry Mix kicked off Watt Stopper Green during a nationwide conference call, outlining ambitious goals that go well beyond the company’s long-time tradition of putting a stop to energy waste. As a leading manufacturer of energy saving products, he believes it is important that the company minimize its own environmental impact. Mix announced the Watt Stopper Green initiative with the following goals:
• Manufacture products using environmentally sensitive techniques;
• Continue to develop products that help customers save energy;
• Improve resource conservation within all company facilities;
• Promote green homes and lifestyles for employees; and
• Evangelize conservation and adoption of environmental management systems.
Watt Stopper/Legrand has committed to embracing environmentally sensitive manufacturing and reducing packaging. Products and manufacturing lines are being redesigned to minimize the use of hazardous materials and be RoHS-compliant beginning in 2008. RoHS is the European Union’s directive on the restriction of hazardous substances. By making this commitment, Watt Stopper/Legrand can fully support customers that wish to add environmental stewardship requirements to their specifications.
As part of the Watt Stopper Green initiative, Watt Stopper/Legrand has stepped up efforts to save energy and water, reduce paper usage and increase recycling in its own facilities. Systems are in place to track the use of resources to ensure success. A Green Team meets regularly to implement new ideas for conservation.
To extend the program into the homes of its employees, Watt Stopper/Legrand has developed incentives for staff members to reduce power and water usage. The company will help them meet goals by providing education and rewards as well as free vacancy sensors to install in their homes.
Mix is confident that customers who are utilizing Watt Stopper/Legrand’s control products will see the importance of Watt Stopper Green. By becoming a better environmental steward, the company is supporting its customers’ green efforts.
