SEATTLE—The DoubleTree by Hilton Seattle Airport and the Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center have announced a partnership with Food Lifeline to secure food and reduce hunger in the Seattle communities. The collaboration will enable the DoubleTree and Hilton Seattle Airport hotels to collect safe, surplus food from events and conferences that would otherwise be thrown away and deliver it to those in need.

“During each conference there is the potential for large amounts of food to go to waste, while at the same time many people in the Seattle region do not have enough to eat,” said Frank Welton, general manager of the DoubleTree and Hilton Seattle Airport hotels. “Partnering with Food Lifeline will help us collect safe, unused food from our hotels and distribute it to the local community.”

The excess food from the hotels will be donated through Food Lifeline to the Griffin Home for Boys in Renton, Wash., which is run through Friends of Youth. The Griffin Home offers a caring, therapeutic environment where troubled adolescent boys can build new hope for the future by gaining responsibility, making healthy choices and demonstrating self-sufficiency.

“Food Lifeline is honored to be partnering with the DoubleTree by Hilton Seattle Airport and the Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center to end hunger in our community,” said Linda Nageotte, Food Lifeline president & CEO. “We all benefit from this partnership, especially the youth at The Griffin Home.”

These food donations will further contribute to the DoubleTree and Hilton Seattle Airport hotels’ goal of promoting sustainability and reducing waste output in the community. The Food Lifeline donation program complements the hotels’ current partnership with the Global Soap Project which recycles and donates hotel soap to various communities. Other sustainability projects the hotels are involved with include towel and bathrobe donations to a local church, the Hilton Worldwide mattress recycle program and donating amenities (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) to local shelters.
