LONDON—For the second year running, Milliken Contract is ranked among the top green companies in the United Kingdom. In London, The Sunday Times cited Milliken Contract, ranked at 13 for 2010, as being “at the forefront of good environmental management” in its annual ranking.

“This recognition reinforces that Milliken approaches stewardship in the same manner around the globe,” said Bill Gregory, director of sustainability, Milliken & Company. “This list has built a reputation for showcasing the very best environmentally-focused companies and it is testament to our commitment to sustainability that we continue to be ranked among the top businesses in the United Kingdom.”

The Sunday Times 60 Best Green Companies is now in its third year with only organizations demonstrating the highest environmental standards making the list. Establishing itself as an industry benchmark, The Sunday Times partners with environmental consultants Bureau Veritas and data analysts Munro Global to not only analyze the environmental performance of the company, but also employee engagement in green policies. Its robust methodology measures environmental performance and surveys employees to ensure transparency. This year, almost 27,000 employees contributed to the survey. Companies competed in five categories based on number of employees and environmental impact.

Ranking in this listing underlines the value Milliken Contract places on its holistic vision of environmental stewardship ¬through its carbon neutral carpet products as well as in the day-to-day working conditions of all associates. The certified carbon negative carpet manufacturer calculates the environmental footprint of all products throughout the life cycle and seeks ways to reduce its impact at all stages. The approach starts with product design. Cushion backing extends carpet life, random-lay carpet eliminates the need for pattern-matching cutting wastage at installation, and TractionBack high-friction coating keeps carpets securely in place without the need for wet adhesives, floor sealers or primers.
