INDIANAPOLIS—After months of strategic planning and a high profile Neocon preview in June, U.K. textile innovator Camira has opened for business in North America with staff, stockholding and samples all in place to service the North American interior fabric marketplace. The Camira North America operation is headquartered in Indianapolis, with initial stocked inventory totalling more than 200 SKUs all available on a quick ship service via a cut yardage program and with full sampling support.

Camira is a market leading European textile manufacturer, independently recognized for product and environmental innovation, achieving annual sales of 10 million yards to global clients in more than 80 countries. The first product introductions for the North American market are deep dyed natural wool fabrics. There’s also a new bast fiber fabric made from an innovative blend of wool and a new natural fiber obtained from cultivated stinging nettles. Second Nature is the proprietary eco-label used by Camira to designate its elite environmental textiles.

The Camira North America business is headed by a Brit, Simon Whittaker, a senior sales professional from Camira’s European Division, who has relocated to Indianapolis as director of sales. Camira has also named Paul Bennotti director of Business Development. The first independent reps are already in post in New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois and Western Canada, and new representatives are being recruited on an ongoing basis. Key support staff in Indianapolis include general manager Michelle Wootan and logistics manager Bill Hunter.

“Everything is now in place for us to be able to provide a new value proposition to the North American textile interiors industry,” Simon said. “We have great products, fantastic pricing, and—crucially—the systems and staff in place to fulfil customers’ comprehensive sampling needs and provide rapid cut yard logistics.”
