KINGWOOD, TEXAS—From the energy capital of the world in Houston comes a new and innovative software program to help individual users fight high energy costs and global warming. The software is TerraCuro, a Latin name-phrase which translates as “Earth Care” and is from a company of the same name.

The company says the program is the most comprehensive of its kind, measuring more than two dozen energy and CO2 areas for household, travel and business uses, giving users powerful new insights to make better energy choices. The program then closely monitors improvements in energy use and CO2 generation.

“It connects users directly to the climate change issue and empowers them with a great feeling as they do something personally about this problem,” says company spokesperson, Jeffrey Scott.

TerraCuro is a Windows-based software program for personal computers. Everything that individuals use and generate is converted by the software into the common denominators of “energy megajoules” and “CO2 tons.” This allows users to clearly see and compare which activities have the highest costs, use the most energy and produce the largest amounts of climate gases.

Goal Setting Features Included

TerraCuro has been built on the mantra of “what gets measured gets results.” The software accurately shows users where they stand today and has a goal setting feature to help keep users on track and let them know when “they’ve arrived.” TerraCuro provides support and choices to help users cut energy costs and attain carbon neutral living, which the company claims is much easier than previously thought. The company says it only takes 15 minutes per week to make its climate program work. Many users report a good-cause feeling when using the program, reinforcing their use toward reaching energy and climate gas goals.

Leading this new and growing community of TerraCuro users, the company has announced a high-level goal to reduce 1 billion tons per year of climate gas from the Earth’s atmosphere. TerraCuro software users participate by uploading their CO2 savings results each month to a central database which tracks global progress toward the 1 billion ton objective. The company plans to begin publishing weekly progress reports toward this ambitious goal in 2008.

The atmospheric CO2 level now stands at 384 parts per million and is increasing more rapidly than in the past, due largely to global industrialization and population growth. Over the past two years, a worldwide consensus has formed on the human role in climate change acceleration. The majority in both the scientific and political arenas now believe that manmade CO2 accumulation and its impact are clear.

“We want to do our share,” Scott says. “In combination with other reduction initiatives, TerraCuro can become an important part of the climate gas fix as we all work together to tackle this crisis. TerraCuro is the first program of its kind to put power in the hands of individuals who want to start doing something now about global warming.”
