SAN FRANCISCO—Bamboo innovator Smith & Fong Co. announced the appointment of Stacy Willard to the position of Chief Operations Officer (COO), according to Smith & Fong founder and CEO Dan Smith.

Willard, who joined the company in 2007 as inventory and logistics manager, has been instrumental in both shaping and organizing this area of the company’s operations. “Over the past eight years, Stacy has come to know the company and our mission in a broader dimension, and he was the natural choice to take on this new and challenging position,” Smith said.

“Stacy has played a key role in Smith & Fong’s continued growth and success over the past few years,” said Angus Stocks, President and Head of Global Sales. “Assuming the role of COO will be a great boost to our management team.”

Willard, a former U.S. Marine, has held numerous management positions in the field of logistics and fulfillment and resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and two children.

Founded in 1989 and headquartered in San Francisco, Smith & Fong Co. was the first U.S. company to manufacture bamboo flooring for sale in North America, offering its initial product under the brand name Plyboo in 1993. In 1996 the firm began producing bamboo plywood, followed by coconut palm flooring and plywood products in 2000. Today, the company’s products are distributed and sold throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and the Middle East.
