SEATTLE—Shaun Hannah, AIA, LEED AP, has been appointed WATG’s director of sustainability. He has been with WATG for 10 years, and during that time he has committed himself to finding sustainable solutions for clients that balance economics, culture and the environment. In Hannah’s new role, he will focus on spearheading WATG’s internal and external sustainability initiatives.

“As design professionals in the hospitality industry, we have the unique opportunity through design to have a positive effect on countless numbers of hotel and resort guests on a daily basis,” Hannah said. “By addressing environmental and cultural sensitivity through our projects, we are able to live our firm’s mission, which is to ‘design experiences that lift the spirit.’”

Hannah and WATG are currently working with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to assess and refine the LEED rating system for hotel and resort projects.

Prior to joining WATG in 1998, Hannah was at Fluor Daniel, Inc., and HOK, where he was involved in construction administration and programming for various commercial developments. He received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture at California State Polytechnic University at Pomona.

WATG has a legacy of environmentally sensitive planning, architecture and design. A hallmark of WATG is its sensitivity to the influences of the local culture, the natural resources, the people and the spirit of the place. From its offices in Irvine, Seattle, Honolulu, Orlando, Singapore and London, WATG has designed hotels and resorts in 157 countries and territories across six continents.
