WASHINGTON, D.C.—Sustainability Frameworks celebrated five years of successful operations by announcing the addition of two partners, Scott Fulton, and Charles Di Leva. Fulton stepped down this January from his most recent role as President of the Environmental Law Institute to assume an emeritus role. He previously served as General Counsel of the United States Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Agency’s Deputy Administrator, senior diplomat, appeals judge, and enforcement chief. Fulton is also a former partner of Beveridge and Diamond, the Washington D.C.-based environmental law firm, where he advised private sector clients.
Di Leva recently left the World Bank where he served as Chief Officer, Environmental and Social Standards, and previously as Chief Counsel for Environmental and International Law. He was a principal architect of the Bank’s new Environmental and Social Framework and the former safeguards policies. Di Leva also held positions with UNEP, IUCN, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, and in private environmental law practice. Both also worked at the U.S. Department of Justice and are Fellows of the American College of Environmental Lawyers.
Sustainability Frameworks helps governments, companies, and international financial institutions (IFIs) manage environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks. “The addition of Charles and Scott—two leading experts on ESG risk management—adds greatly to our bench strength,” said Catherine Stevens, Sustainability Frameworks’ Managing Partner.
Di Leva and Fulton have been central players on the domestic and international fronts of environmental law and policy for many years, often with intersecting roles, tracking back to their early days working together at the Justice Department’s Environment Division. “We have long talked about doing something together again,” Di Leva noted. “Sustainability Frameworks is the perfect setting for reuniting and combining our strengths.”
Fulton added, “I think we both see what is unfolding in the ESG space—in both the public and private sectors—as among the most important developments in environmental policy since the beginning of the modern environmental movement.
