NEW YORK—PurOptima, a global leading manufacturer of sustainable interior glass wall partitions and doors, announced that all its glass and aluminum wall partitions and doors will be made using Hydro CIRCAL.
Hydro CIRCAL is a new brand of sustainable aluminum, made with a minimum of 75 percent recycled post-consumer scrap, which minimizes the carbon footprint of the products in which it’s used. Recycling aluminum requires just 5 percent of the energy needed to produce primary aluminum, drastically reducing the amount of energy required.
This benefit is then passed onto PurOptima’s glass wall partitions and doors, greatly reducing their embodied carbon, reflecting the company’s ongoing aim to become a low-emission glass wall manufacturer.
Furthermore, Hydro CIRCAL’s arrival also demonstrates its commitment to circular economic principles, which sits at the heart of PurOptima’s business model. It’s another key milestone in their journey towards sustainable development and reducing their carbon footprint to zero.
Supply Chain Overhauled
Commenting on the move, Christian Mabey, Managing Director, Optima Products, says, “We have worked closely with Hydro to ensure we use aluminum with the maximum recycled content available and the lowest carbon footprint. This has led to our decision to completely overhaul our supply chain and introduce Hydro CIRCAL across our entire range of products.”
Kevin Mayer, U.S. Country Manager for PurOptima explains, “Currently U.S. produced aluminum has an embodied carbon of 16kgCo2, compared with a European average of 8.6KgCo2. Contrastingly Hydro CIRCAL aluminum exclusively available in the U.S. in PurOptima’s glass wall partitioning systems has an embodied carbon of just 2.3kgCo2 which is a massive benefit for clients. We have already been able to make significant carbon reductions for clients looking to reduce their carbon footprint.”
Hydro guarantees a minimum of 75 percent post-consumer recycled content. Operating an advanced aluminum sorting technology, the end-of-life materials are reclaimed, cleaned, and sorted so only the finest scrap metals are reintroduced into circulation. This ensures no excess energy is spent in the recycling process.
“We are constantly considering the future and our own role within it, that’s why we’re increasingly focusing on how we manufacture and consume as a business,” Mayer says. “Designing products and processes which incorporate reusability, and the circular economy is key to how we work now and in the future. As a market leader, we are developing several innovations that will support our clients and the environment moving forward. Our use of Hydro CIRCAL is another one of these advances.”
