NEW YORK—Protect-A-Bed, a leading supplier of bedding protection products for the hospitality industry, will focus on hygiene and showcase sustainability solutions in the company’s expanded booth (#3132) at IHMRS.

Protect-A-Bed, an established leader in the continual fight against bed bug infestations, is encouraging hoteliers to also think about another ongoing challenge. “While bed bug infestations will continue to cause problems for hotel owners and operators, there’s actually a more consistent threat that is universal: the human contamination of mattresses,” says Sandra DiVito, vice president of Hospitality at Protect-A-Bed.

“Hoteliers are challenged every day to maintain clean mattresses for their guests,” DiVito says. “Consider that there are 13 million incontinence sufferers in America today. This alarming statistic, along with the reoccurring issue of bed bugs, threatens mattress hygiene and shortens the life of a mattress asset.”

Focus on Extending Mattress Life

Protect-A-Bed’s booth will focus on the role encasements play in sustainability and preserving mattresses and box springs. “The very first time a mattress is protected from a human accident, the encasement has paid for itself,” DiVito says. “Hoteliers realize many other cost savings, such as labor costs, reduced utility expenses, reduced cleaning chemical expenses and can even increase revenue through expeditious room recovery time.”

The theme will be carried through Protect-A-Bed’s booth, which will feature an assortment of new and established products specifically designed to help hoteliers address hygiene, bed bugs, and sustainability.

Protect-A-Bed’s newest product, BugLock Plus Mattress Encasement, is a hygiene and bed bug solution for hotel owners and operators. It features expandable fabric, is easily installed and offers an absorbent, waterproof and air vapor porous sleep surface. “This encasement offers allergy protection, which helps hotels create a healthy and restful sleep environment and includes bed bug protection,” DiVito says.

Important Sustainability Tool

According to DiVito, Protect-A-Bed is actively collaborating with hotel owners and operators across the country to develop and implement an aggressive approach for preserving mattresses, box springs and pillows. “Hoteliers tell us they are forced to discard soiled or bed bug infested mattresses because they are not reusable and impossible to recycle,” DiVito says. “Mattress encasements are really an important sustainability tool because they allow hotels to recycle mattresses or contribute them to charity at the end of the life cycle of the mattress.”

Another new product that will be featured in the booth is Protect-A-Bed’s AllerZip Smooth Pillow Protector that is waterproof and offers contamination and allergy pillow protection. “Pillow protectors are an essential part of creating a healthy sleep environment for hotel guests,” DiVito says. “Most importantly, pillow protectors can pay for themselves by eliminating the cost of replacement pillow due to human contaminants.”

According to DiVito, Protect-a-Bed’s pillow protectors are waterproof, offer a dust mite barrier and allergy protection, and feature Protect-A-Bed’s Miracle Membrane, which ensures breathability and dust mite protection. The smooth surface is designed to provide pillow comfort to guests.
