DALLAS—Prota Culture, a waste management solutions company, announces the launch of BioPod Plus, a highly advanced compost bin that utilizes native grubs to speed up the bioconversion process. The BioPod Plus provides a unique composting experience that recovers valuable proteins and lipids for domesticated animals and wildlife. Unlike traditional composting that slowly breaks down food and yard waste to create soil for yards, grub composting is a rapid process that produces nutritious feed for chickens, fish and songbirds.

“With the unveiling of BioPod Plus, composting food waste will be taken to the next level, as improvements for ease of use and distribution capabilities are significantly enhanced,” said Prota Culture founder and CEO Robert Olivier. “While many compost bins can take 12 to 18 weeks to break down their contents, a BioPod Plus filled with grubs recycles most food scraps in less than 48 hours.”

With the eco-conscious gardener in mind, BioPod Plus evolved from nine years of research and development in various climates and on three continents. The signature decomposer is the juvenile form of Hermetia illucens, a harmless, native arthropod that does not sting, bite or transmit disease, commonly referred to as the Black Soldier Fly. Many people recognize these ‘Soldier Grubs’ from their current compost piles, but have no way of separating them from the waste. BioPod Plus revolutionizes this process by encouraging the grubs to auto-harvest at their nutritional peak, giving gardeners easy access to valuable feed for chickens, fish, reptiles and songbirds.

“Whether it’s a family with backyard chickens or hobby gardeners, Soldier grubs take composting from monotonous to miraculous,” said BioPod Plus co-creator Karl Warkomski. “A BioPod Plus gives people incentives to reduce our carbon footprint by diverting kitchen scraps away from sewers and landfill.”

Updated features of BioPod Plus include a built-in drainage system, a convenient one-hand access lid, and an integrated collection bucket that allow for auto-harvesting to take place—without the typical sights and smells of a manual compost bin. The unit is also weather resistant to protect contents from rain, while the roto-molded design with rounded safety edges ensures durability and longevity.

“With this unique and exciting product, you can recycle the valuable nutrients in your kitchen waste by emulating natural processes that create usable feed for pets, domesticated animals and wildlife,” said Warkomski.
