SOMERSET, N.J.—Philips announces its receipt of numerous lighting awards at the 2007 LightFair International Trade Show & Conference in New York City on May 6 to 10. Recognizing Philips’ wide variety of new product innovations from across its broad range of North American lighting businesses, the following awards were presented to Philips during LightFair’s 2007 Innovation Awards ceremony:

• Philips Lighting’s ALTO II low-mercury T8 fluorescent lamp technology received both LightFair’s Best of Category: Conventional Lamps Award as well as the show’s Technical Excellence Award (co-presented to Philips Lumileds’ LUXEON Rebel line as well). Philips Lighting’s T8 linear fluorescent lamps with ALTO II technology contain a low mercury content of only 1.7 mg—a 50 percent reduction below Philips Lighting’s previous industry-low level of 3.5 mg.

• Philips Lumileds Lighting Company’s LUXEON Rebel line of high power LEDs also received the 2007 Technical Excellence Award from LightFair and was the winner of the Best of Category: Specialty Lamps Award. With a footprint area that is 75 percent smaller than other surface mount power LEDs, superior efficacy levels and color quality, and availability in a full range of colors and white CCTs, Lumileds’ LUXEON Rebel enables entirely new approaches to solid-state lighting design.

• The Bodine Company’s ARC Keeper Arctic 175 HID backup ballast received LightFair’s 2007 award for Most Innovative Product of the Year. Bodine’s ARC Keeper line of backup ballasts helps eliminate arc loss in metal halide systems, enabling continuous operation of lamps through minor power disturbances or until backup generators begin providing power. The Arctic 175 model catches and maintains the arc of one 100- to 175-watt metal halide pulse start lamp at ambient temperatures ranging from -40°C to 55°C, preventing lamp extinction during power line disruptions.

“We are delighted to have received these outstanding honors across our range of Philips Lighting businesses and to have been recognized by LightFair for our commitment to delivering innovations that promote technology, sustainability, and security,” says Susan Bloom, director of corporate communications for Philips Lighting.

Sponsored by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) and attended by some 20,000 architects, designers, and lighting professionals each year, LightFair International represents North America’s largest annual lighting conference and trade show.
