MILWAUKEE, WISC.—Perlick Corp. has surpassed Energy Star standards by an average of 23.7 percent on its products receiving the Energy Star award since February 2007. Continuing its commitment to green practices, Perlick has announced, after an extensive study, its usage of ecomate, a new blowing agent and family of polyurethane foam systems, as the best choice in its efforts to maintain eco-friendly manufacturing
practices.

This new blowing foam meets all current and future regulatory requirements and is both USA EPA and SNAP approved. As a leader in commercial and residential refrigeration, Perlick continues to address future environmental and energy concerns, and initiate the necessary steps toward meeting and exceeding its future goals of global conservancy.

Methyl formate, commonly known as ecomate in the polyurethane industry, was recently awarded VOC Exempt Status by the EPA. Tests show that ecomate does not contribute to tropospheric ozone, which occurs when VOCs and nitrogen oxides react in the atmosphere.

“When we were considering a new blowing agent for our polyurethane foam we considered a number of factors such as: thermal efficiency, environmental impact, processability and overall cost,” explains Karl Krumbiegel, project engineer for Perlick Corp. “Ecomate gave us the best of all possibilities, having identical thermal efficiencies, capable of being used with our existing equipment, 0-ODP (Ozone Depleting Potential), 0-GWP (Global Warming Potential), VOC Exempt (Volatile Organic Compound or SMOG) and the only blowing agent not on any type of ‘hit list’ for phase-out.”
