NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO—Moen Inc. has announced its membership in the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The mission of USGBC, a nonprofit organization, is to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.

“The USGBC is expanding our country’s green building practices and education, and Moen feels strongly in enhancing these pursuits, as well,” said Dennis McKinney, Moen’s director of environmental health. “Sustainability and environmental responsibility are increasingly important issues in today’s society, and we hope our membership in the USGBC will further enhance our industry’s commitment and allow us to advance green initiatives with builders, plumbers and consumers.”

Moen has a long history of environmental initiatives—from eliminating waste in the manufacturing process to recycling water and reusing materials. Its most prominent commitment, however, is through its eco-friendly products, which help save water without sacrificing performance. Recent “green” product introductions include:

• The new Rothbury lavatory faucets—Moen’s first faucets to be WaterSense certified—indicating they meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s guidelines for water-efficient products. The faucets feature a water-saving aerator, which reduces flow by 30 percent compared to standard 2.5 gallons per minute (gpm) faucets.

• The Fina lavatory faucet, from ShowHouse by Moen—Moen’s luxury brand—is also WaterSense certified.
• Moen’s Flow-Optimizing Water Saving showerhead, which flows at 1.75 gpm, offering a 30 percent water savings from the industry-standard 2.5 gpm showerheads.
