CORTLAND, N.Y.—Marietta Corporation has announced the launch of a new environmentally-friendly amenity collection in the spring of 2009 that contains natural and organic ingredients and is packaged in the latest environmentally-sensitive materials. Partnering with Sonoma Soap Company, an all-natural product line, Marietta has focused on making the Sonoma Citrus Medley amenities as green as possible without sacrificing style, quality, competitive cost or performance.

Sonoma formulations use both natural fragrance and colorants while eliminating commonly used chemicals potentially harmful to humans or the environment, such as parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, and synthetic preservatives. The Sonoma collection is also cruelty free—not tested on animals.

Each of the formulations and soaps are biodegradable and the packaging is recyclable. The bottles are a combination of HDPE and up to 25 percent PCR (post consumer recycled resin). The soaps contain vegetable base and are also packaged using PCR materials. All inks are soy or water based and cured with non-threatening UV rays.

100 Percent Natural Aromatics

One of the most distinct characteristics of Sonoma retail products and the amenity collection is the use of 100 percent natural aromatics. A rich yet subtle fragrance is created through a simple distillation process that isolates natural aromas. These are ultimately combined with pure essential oils to achieve a fresher and more complex aroma blend. Citrus Medley is a subtle yet fragrant blend of pink grapefruit, sweet orange, spearmint and tangerine.

Also, unlike many current amenity products, the Sonoma line is manufactured strictly in the United States, thus preserving jobs and reducing concerns about contamination associated with some off-shore imports where quality standards are not as rigorous. As well as being eco-friendly, the new Sonoma Amenity line’s packaging features a casual yet sophisticated style to complement any room décor.

“With the Sonoma amenity line you get a clean look as well as a clean conscience,” says Tim Tryon, creative director.

In regard to the packaging, David Hempson, v.p. of business development, explained Marietta’s choice to go with a combination material bottle rather than the new corn-based bottles. “We observed limitations to product stability in the corn bottle,” (purported to have a shelf life of two months or less) stated Hempson. “When we considered that along with the wasted energy and increased pollution associated with the production and transport of the bottles from China, we felt it negated any green benefit of the bottle material. The combination of recyclable materials and PCR resins manufactured close to our plant made the most environmental sense to us.”
