LOS ANGELES—Utilizing a patented mix of high-lumen output phosphors, Kumho Electric has launched Earthcare, a new, premium line of super efficient fluorescent lamps. Used as a replacement for 4-foot T8 lamps, Kumho Electric’s new 29-watt Earthcare T8s deliver the same illumination (3100 lumens) as a premium, high-lumen F32T8, but with 3 watts (almost 10 percent) lower power consumption. Earthcare does this without compromising on lamp life or color rendering. The Earthcare T8s are 24,000-hour lamps and have an 80 or greater CRI rating.

“This is a breakthrough product that delivers real energy savings without sacrificing on light output,” says Alan Medak, director of U.S. operations for Kumho Electric. “Earthcare lamps produce the light levels needed in schools, hospitals, offices, retail and other workplaces, while providing significant savings on energy costs.”

Earthcare F29T8s do cost a little more—about $1/lamp—than other premium products, but over their lifetime, each Earthcare T8 lamp will save 72 kilowatt-hours (kWh) or more than $10 in energy costs at typical utility rates. When it is time to re-lamp, Earthcare T8 lamps can pay for themselves in a matter of months, but will continue to provide savings for years. In applications with long burn hours, for example, re-lamping with Earthcare T8s can result in a return on investment of more than 350 percent. (Replacing several thousand T8 lamps can produce annual energy cost savings of more than $10,000—more than three times the additional expense of the lamps.)

Kumho Electric’s Earthcare T8 lamps are available in 3000K, 3500K, 4100K and 5000K color temperatures to meet the specific needs of a variety of locations and applications. Lamp specifications have been independently tested and verified.
