SAN DIEGO—Hilton San Diego Bayfront recently underwent a $23 million renovation to all 1,190 guestrooms and guestroom corridors. Keeping guests’ needs in mind, the enhanced guestrooms and suites feature a nautical, contemporary design and premium amenities including modern furniture, new mini coolers, updated restrooms, additional power and USB ports, 55” HD TVs and more. With both city and coastal elements, the hotel’s elevated look embraces everything Southern California has to offer, and the sophisticated seafaring-inspired design is a nod to the hotel’s stunning, prime location on the edge of the San Diego Bay.

In conjunction with the renovation, this year Hilton San Diego Bayfront became the first Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand in California—and the third globally—to offer Connected Room technology. Connected Room is a first-of-its-kind, high-tech guestroom that enables guests to personalize and control every aspect of their stay from one central point: their mobile device. Guests who stay in a Connected Room at Hilton San Diego Bayfront will be able to use the Hilton Honors app to manage most things they would traditionally do manually in a room, from controlling the temperature and lighting to the TV and window coverings. Guests will also be able to personalize their room with technology that loads the most popular streaming media and other accounts to in-room TVs.

“We are thrilled to continue to innovate in the way we deliver our signature hospitality and provide our guests with an enhanced experience that embodies what makes San Diego such a unique and amazing destination,” said Steve Cowan, General Manager of Hilton San Diego Bayfront. “We love offering guests a well-rounded Southern California experience, and we are excited by the opportunity to bring the outside elements in with this renovation.”

Abundance of Natural Light

The reimagined space offers chic, upgraded furniture and design accents including new winged headboards, sconces, blackout and sheer drapery, lounge chairs, floor lamps, mirrors, bathroom vanities and nightstands, In addition, the rooms now offer Crabtree and Evelyn beauty amenities and Hilton’s luxury Serenity Collection bed and linens. An abundance of natural light from big picture windows that showcase San Diego’s city and bay views bring the comfortable-yet-contemporary setting alive. Hilton San Diego Bayfront’s hallway corridors also received a refreshed look, with new decorative lighting, textured wallcovering, sconces, artwork and more.

With a refreshed color scheme that includes natural colors ranging from slate to indigo, and whimsical artwork that encompasses the feeling of being on the water, the design combines the vibrancy of downtown San Diego with the relaxing vibe of the bay—making it a soothing sanctuary for guests. The renovation, which began December 2018, was completed last month.

As part of Hilton’s global commitment to redefine sustainable travel by pledging to cut its environmental footprint in half and double investment in social impact projects, Hilton San Diego Bayfront also boasts a continued focus on sustainability with the following measures:

  • Using environmentally responsible suppliers for all purchases;
  • Offering locally grown, organic options at the hotel’s restaurants and bars using a “farm to fork” approach;
  • A towel and sheet reuse program;
  • Installation of a water reclamation system in the laundry department that reclaims 70 percent of the water;
  • Upgraded Building Automation system that improves system programming to implement tighter controls of energy usage while improving occupant comfort (this project saves enough electricity to power 108 typical homes and enough natural gas for 224 typical homes for a year);
  • Built-in occupancy sensors for thermostat and light switches; and
    Utilization of Hilton’s LightStay Program, a sustainability program that accurately measures and reports on the hotel’s energy consumption to identify areas for improvement. Hilton is the first major hotel company to institute science-based targets to reduce its carbon emissions and commit to sending zero hotel soap to landfills.
