DALLAS—East Teak Fine Hardwoods, Inc., a leading importer and distributor of the high-quality hardwoods, announced that it has recently selected Scientific Certification Systems, Inc. (SCS) as its new accredited Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification auditor.

“In choosing a new auditor, it was important to us that we choose a company that would be attentive to our needs, and SCS was the best fit for East Teak,” says Matt Mladenka, marketing and sales director. “After reviewing several accredited auditing companies, we felt that they could best help us get to where we wanted to be with our FSC-certified wood program.”

East Teak, which has held its FSC certification since 2006, will now have new chain-of-custody number SCS-COC-002289. The company, with the help of SCS, has expanded the stock of FSC species it carries from two to six since the beginning of 2009 and expects more growth as more species become readily available within their niche.

“East Teak has been adding to its stock of various FSC woods as industry demand grows,” Mladenka says. “SCS has held our hand through the process and has put us in a scalable position that we were not in before. With 15 percent of our inquiries being green building now, we are in position to meet both current and future demand.”
