MIAMI—Cradle to Cradle, the highly regarded design paradigm that qualifies products by their eco-effectiveness, has bestowed Bio-Glass with its Silver Certification. “Coverings ETC has developed a valuable, ecologically-intelligent product made from 100 percent recycled content that can easily be recycled by the final customer as well. Bio-Glass has no colorants or other additives. Following its use, Bio-Glass can be placed into the same recycling containers as drink bottles,” said Steve Bolton, senior consultant of MBDC, the environmental consulting and design firm that developed Cradle to Cradle design.

Bio-Glass surface material is at the heart of Coverings ETC’s mission to care for the environment through its products, practices and initiatives. Bio-Glass, available in 110-inch x 49-inch slabs, is made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled glass and is recyclable. Bio-Glass is available in shades ranging from white to dark brown. Slabs contain 100 percent post-consumer recycled content broken glass from used beer, water and other bottle and jar containers that would ordinarily go to landfills.

The unique material is versatile in its application and can be used for flooring, countertops as well as other decorative surfaces. The layers of compressed glass pieces create unique patterns through which light permeates, resulting in a solid surface that appears illuminated from within.

From the earliest phases of processing in Coverings ETC’c International Standards for Environmental Practices UNI EN ISO 14 001-certified manufacturing plants, to the end user, the Bio-Glass collection upholds rigorous environmental standards. The Bio-Glass collection is one example of Coverings ETC’s dual focus on aesthetics and the environment and has earned NSF and GreenSpec third party certifications. In fact, Bio-Glass has been recognized by leading industry figures for its achievements. Since 2001, Coverings ETC has been a member of the U.S. Green Building Council.
