HILLSBORO, OREGON—Caroma, a leader in dual flush toilets and bathroom sinks, was chosen by Cambean Hospitality, a Miami Beach-based hospitality group, to supply high efficiency toilets for the Clifton South Beach hotel. The Clifton South Beach is a 35-room historic Art Deco boutique hotel in Florida that is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation with the ultimate goal of LEED Gold certification.

Caroma was chosen by Cambean Hospitality to help maximize water savings in the bathrooms at the Clifton. The entire hotel is being retrofitted with Sydney Smart 270 toilets, a dual flush toilet using 1.28 gallons per flush for solid waste and 0.8 gallons for liquid and paper waste, averaging only 0.90 gallons based on a 1:4 full/half flush ratio. This saves more than 74 percent water compared with the 3.5-gallon toilets previously installed. Assuming just a 50 percent occupancy rate and toilets utilized three times/day, that is a savings of more than 51,000 gallons of water in just one year.

Cambean Hospitality has just launched Cambean Earth, a new brand that defines the sustainable systems and practices being implemented throughout their organization. The Clifton, scheduled to open in early 2009, is their first hotel to be renovated as a green property.

“Due to the growth, integrity, and reputation of Caroma, their high efficiency toilets were the best choice for the Clifton,” states Brian Scheinblum, president of Cambean Hospitality. “They are widely known for their advances in water conservation, and we felt that their products and technologies best support our Cambean Earth initiative.”
