RIVER FALLS, WIS.—With an eye on not just saving money, but with helping the environment, the operators of the newest hotel in River Falls, Wis., will be using a device called UZLOW on all showers in the 86-room hotel which opened on July 3.

“The theme of the town is green and we are certainly working to go along with that,” said Andrew Dyb, general manager of the Best Western Hotel and Suites. Dyb noted that drought has been a problem in the area in recent years and that one of the city’s wells dropped to what municipal officials called “very low” levels in 2007. With the UZLOW device guests will be able to limit the amount of water being used while taking a shower.

“When an individual is rinsing down they can leave UZLOW in the regular-flow position, but when they are shampooing, shaving or lathering up they can switch the handle to low flow—saving water yet still having enough water flow to maintain a comfortable shower,” said Phillip Bautch, UZLOW inventor.

“River Falls does well to attract businesses like Best Western, with leaders like Andrew who have the courage to be innovative and give their customers a choice to help protect our community resources,” he added.

Not only will the device help the hotel go green it will also help it reduce operating costs. According to figures from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, water costs have increased in the state by an average of 14 percent since 2004.

UZLOW doesn’t just cut water costs. Because less hot water will be used, the device will help reduce energy costs too.
