MENOMONEE FALLS, WIS.—Ninety-three golfers teed up to fight cancer at the second annual Jerry Maahs Memorial Golf Outing benefiting the American Cancer Society.
The benefit, held at Scenic View Country Club in Slinger, Wis., raised more than $5,000. Alto-Shaam, in turn, matched the funds raised at the outing for a total of more than $11,000 for the American Cancer Society. In addition to the golfers, 24 hole sponsors, including local businesses, corporate vendors, and foodservice publications, helped raise money to fight cancer.
“The outpouring of support from everyone has been astounding,” said Steve Maahs, president and COO of Alto-Shaam, and Jerry Maahs’s son. “I know Jerry would be happy to see all this participation in his honor.”
Jerry Maahs founded Alto-Shaam in 1956. His invention of the Cook & Hold oven revolutionized the commercial foodservice industry. From the factory and world headquarters located in Menomonee Falls, Wis., Jerry spent five decades producing high-quality foodservice equipment that set the standard for performance and energy efficiency. Jerry passed away on April 18, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer.
The golf outing honoring Jerry was held for the first time in 2009. In 2010, the money raised for the American Cancer Society doubled.
