WASHINGTON, D.C.—A webinar on carbon monoxide safety will be held for AH&LA members on Thursday, August 21, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. (EST). The moderator will be Tony Mendez, corporate safety/security services, resort management, Bluegreen Corp. Speakers will include: Byron Briese, Rolf Jenson Associates; Tom Daly, The Hospitality Security Consulting Group; and Stacy Welch, PE, Senior Director, Fire Protection and Life Safety, Marriott International, Inc.

Although incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning are rare, regular maintenance and equipment checks can help hoteliers protect both guests and employees. As with smoke alarms, there are no federal mandates or regulations governing the use of carbon monoxide alarms, and at the state level guidance varies from no regulations to those unique to states to the International Fire Code 2012 language.

AH&LA’s team of experts will discuss the new requirements from the International Code Council for the 2015 International Building Code and the International Fire code, and cover some recent state, county, and city code updates.

Learn your legal obligations, installation standards, and recommended major manufacturers and their CO alarms product recall history. Find out the real world costs and complexities at the hotel level, including implementing inspections following natural disasters and severe weather events as well as how to work with contractors to ensure a system is installed properly to minimize liability.
