I recently attended The Clean Show in Orlando, Fla. At that show, Renegade Brands, known for its Scientifically Clean approach and commitment to evidence-based innovation, showcased its Certified laundry detergents and announced its award recognition from the Asthma & Allergy Friendly Certification Program. Over 28 million people in the U.S. have asthma, including 23 million adults and 5 million children, while one in three people have allergies. The connection between laundry products and indoor allergen exposure is well-established. Detergents certified by the Asthma & Allergy Friendly Certification Program, a collaborative initiative between the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Allergy Standards Ltd. (ASL), have undergone rigorous independent testing to assess their impact on allergen removal, allergen re-deposition, and ingredient content.
According to Renegade Brands, Pure Pro Laundry Detergent is the first and currently only commercial laundry detergent to earn the Asthma & Allergy Friendly certification. Renegade Brands’ relationship with the Asthma & Allergy Friendly Certification Program began in 2021 when Sweat-X Sport Free and Clear became their first certified product. Encouraged by the success of this product, Renegade pursued certification for Pure Pro Laundry Detergent, specifically designed for commercial and healthcare environments.

Renegade Brands suggests taking the following into consideration when comparing laundry detergents:
- Phosphates contribute to water pollution by creating algal blooms, which harm ecosystems.
- Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) can cause skin irritation and are slow to biodegrade.
- Optical brighteners are chemicals that make clothes appear whiter but don’t actually clean them. They are typically toxic to aquatic life, too.
- Synthetic fragrances are likely to contain phthalates, which are harmful to people’s health and the environment.
