SAN FRANCISCO—3Degrees announced that it has received a 2007 Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Department of Energy for helping to build the market for green power. The annual awards recognize leading national green power suppliers for their commitment and contribution to helping advance the development of the nation’s green power market. 3Degrees’ impact on the total sales of renewable energy and carbon reductions in 2007 is significant.

3Degrees, which recently purchased the assets of the REC and Utility Partnership Division of 3 Phases Energy, serves more than 150 business customers across its product lines, including 28 U.S. and Global Fortune 500 companies. Through these partnerships, 3Degrees is originating new demand in the market, ultimately helping to support 140 renewable energy and carbon offset projects worldwide.

In addition, 3Degrees is an established green power partner with five utilities that offer voluntary renewable energy programs that are among the most successful in the nation. This summer, AmerenUE launched Pure Power in partnership with 3Degrees. This program will reach 1.2 million residential customers in Missouri. 3Degrees also operates the No. 1 utility partnership in the country—PaloAltoGreen—as measured by its 20 percent community participation rate. Across its four utility partnerships operating for more than a year, the average participation rate is 9.4 percent, an achievement considering the national average is 1.5 percent.

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award and extremely proud to be partnering with leading companies dedicated to reducing their impact on the environment,” says Dan Kalafatas, president and COO of 3Degrees. “Through our commitments to high quality renewable energy and greenhouse gas reduction projects, we are able to provide our customers a way to complement their energy efficiency efforts and make an important difference in the fight against climate change.”

The Green Power Leadership Award was presented to 3Degrees at an awards event on Monday evening, October 22, in conjunction with the Twelfth National Renewable Marketing Conference taking place in Philadelphia. Two of its utility programs, Santa Clara Green Power by Silicon Valley Power and Pacific Power’s Blue Sky Program, and two of its corporate customers, Wells Fargo Bank and one other, are also receiving awards at this event.

This year a panel of judges reviewed nearly 100 nominations based on criteria ranging from the amount of green power generated to each organization’s strategy for incorporating green power into its operations and communications.
