WATERFORD, CONN.—Waterford Hotel Group, a national hotel management firm, announced that the 14 hotels it operates in Connecticut have recently joined the roster of an exclusive group of Connecticut hotels that have been officially designated as Connecticut Green Lodging Certified. Waterford’s Connecticut properties include: Marriott Hartford Downtown; Hilton Hartford; Residence Inn by Marriott, Hartford; Sheraton Hotel at Bradley Airport; Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa, Groton; Residence Inn by Marriott, Mystic; Comfort Inn, Mystic; SpringHill Suites by Marriott, Waterford; Courtyard by Marriott, Norwich; Four Points by Sheraton, Norwalk; Residence Inn by Marriott, Danbury; Residence Inn by Marriott, Southington; Holiday Inn Express, Southington; and Courtyard by Marriott, Cromwell.

As part of an 18-month-long process, the Waterford-managed hotels implemented practices to reduce environmental impacts, create a healthier work environment, and identify cost saving opportunities. These practices include introducing environmentally-friendly chemicals, a guest elective towel and linen program, energy management programs, among many other initiatives.

“We recognize the importance that businesses have in adopting environmentally friendly practices,” said Farouk Rajab, regional hotel director of Waterford Hotel Group. “It is the responsible thing for us to do, not only for our hotel guests but also for our local communities. Our team of associates is proud to have taken this important step in protecting our greatest resources for future generations.”

“As a growing numbers of consumers, including families and conference planners, want to know if the hotel where they plan to stay is ‘green,’ the demand for the CT Green Lodging certification continues to rise,” says Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Daniel C. Esty. “Consumers expect the same environmental awareness when they travel as they have initiated in their own homes. Whether the hotel implements energy efficiency methods, water conservation strategies, provides renewable energy or has switched to less toxic cleaners, consumers feel confident knowing their hotel meets the criteria as a Green Lodging Certified Hotel.”
