Twenty-four Marriott Hainan Area Hotels Went Dark for Earth Hour

SANYA, CHINA—Twenty-four Marriott International hotels in the Hainan Area went dark for one hour to shine a light on climate action in support of Earth Hour 2018. To bring Marriott’s Spirit to serve live in the local community, there was a charity donation initiative for Hainan. On March 24, every guest dining at any of Marriott International Hainan hotels’ restaurants for lunch or dinner, RMB 5 donated to the certified nonprofit organization Sanya Bright Connection supporting children with autism and cerebral palsy.

“Marriott is committed to making a positive and sustainable impact wherever it does business, and create opportunities for the communities where we operate,” said Edmund Ko, Chairman of Marriott International Hainan Business Council. “Guided by its sustainability and social impact platform, Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction.”

The following properties encouraged guests to participate in Earth Hour and raised awareness about climate change.

Earth Hour Activities

The Westin Shimei Bay Resort held a “soap-making class” with all materials being recycled from the white tea aloe soap from guestrooms, and guests took their hand made soap home. Le Meridien Shimei Bay Beach Resort & Spa featured a bonfire and invited guests for bamboo dance, beach crab hunting, followed by a live concert by a band from Paraguay. Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay showed environmental protection themed movies in the garden and invited guests to join wish-making activity with lotus lanterns. The Shanhaitian Resort Sanya, Autograph Collection had a themed buffet dinner. The Ritz-Carlton, Haikou went “dark” in their restaurant, with a few candles for the dining area, and enjoyed a performance at Flair bar on the top floor of the hotel. Renaissance Haikou Resort & Spa invited guests to the lobby bar during the Earth Hour and offer a themed cocktail with compliments. Daniele Vacca, Chef de Cuisine of Sofia Italian restaurant of The Ritz-Carlton Sanya Yalong Bay presented an innovative five-element menu of water, fire, wood, earth and metal to entice diners. Sheraton Shenzhou Peninsula Resort, Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhou Peninsula Resort had a beach cleaning activity and crafted more than 60 symbol sand sculptures, followed with a ceremony to turn the lights off and a concert with a non-alcohol cocktail hour.

The Westin Sanya Haitang Bay Resort, Sanya Marriott Yalong Bay Resort & Spa, Sheraton Sanya Bay Resort,  Four Points by Sheraton Hainan, The St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay Resort, Xiangshui Bay Marriott Resort & Spa invited guests to a moonlight concert by offering themed cocktails and special snacks with compliments.
