DANVERS, MASS.—Sylvania announced the largest pledge commitment to date for the Energy Star Change a Light, Change the World campaign, which encourages Americans to change one lightbulb to an Energy Star compact fluorescent bulb, helping preserve energy resources and the environment.

As part of the national program, which kicked off Wednesday, Sylvania has committed to collect 100,000 Change a Light pledges on its website, www.sylvania.com. This is the company’s largest commitment ever to the energy saving campaign.

“The pledges Sylvania collects as part of the Change a Light campaign can lead to greenhouse gas reductions equivalent to the pollution created by 2,500 cars annually,” says Jennifer Dolin, Sylvania’s environmental marketing manager. Sylvania plans to achieve its goal of 100,000 pledges by the end of November 2006.

According to Sylvania, its DULUX EL Energy Star-rated bulbs last about 10 times longer and save an average of $30 in energy costs, compared to standard bulbs.

“Changing just one lightbulb can help you protect the environment, and your wallet,” Dolin says.

The Energy Star Change a Light, Change the World campaign is sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, to encourage Americans to consider the energy they use and to switch to lightbulbs and fixtures that have earned the government’s Energy Star for energy efficiency.
