bdny_blue_0CINCINNATI—More than 100 thought leaders from the world of hospitality design, development, purchasing and architecture will share their perspectives at the Boutique Design New York (BDNY) trade fair and conference, November 13 to 14, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. “The Next Resort: Beyond Sustainability,” an Intel session presented by NEWH Green Voice, will explore design strategies for creating healthier hotel environments for staff and guests alike. Lorraine Francis, Regional Director of Hospitality Interiors, Gensler, will moderate; panelists include Paul Scialla, Founder, CEO, Delos, and others to be announced.

World-renowned designer Karim Rashid, whose remake of Temptation Resort & Spa Cancun was featured in Boutique Design’s July/August issue, will kick off the BDNY conference with a keynote presentation on Sunday, November 13, at 10 a.m. A prolific, multi-disciplined designer with some 3,000 designs in production, Rashid will share his strategies for creating provocative design with a practical foundation.

Following Rashid’s presentation, Boutique Design Executive Editor and HMG Conference Director Mary Scoviak will moderate a discussion with CEOs of leading lifestyle brands on the trends, challenges and “extra skills” that will win commissions in their dynamic segment of the hospitality market. Panelists for “Living the Lifestyle: A View From the C-Suite” include Ingo Schweder, CEO and Founder, GOCO Hospitality; Josh Wyatt, President, Equinox Hotels; and others to be announced.

“We are so excited to present this unique opportunity for our attendees to get a master class from a designer who’s rewritten the design rule book in so many ways—just as our lifestyle leaders have done from an operations and development perspective,” said Scoviak.

More Than 35 Educational Sessions

The Opening Keynote is the first of 35+ panel discussions, design-firm Q&As and CEU sessions on the two-day conference agenda. Sessions are grouped into four tracks: Inspiration, Information, Interaction and a new addition for 2016, Intel, which focuses on helping designers improve their business management skills and processes.

Among the Intel sessions for 2016 is “Tru Story,” a panel discussion moderated by Alexandra Jaritz, Global Head, TRU by Hilton, that will give BDNY attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the process of crafting a new hotel flag, courtesy of the team that developed the midscale hotel brand targeting youthful, value-minded travelers. Panelists confirmed to date include Tom Horwitz, Executive Vice President, FRCH Design Worldwide, and Mitch Patel, President & CEO, Vision Hospitality Group, Inc.

BDNY signature sessions include the “ISHP/Boutique Design Owners’ Grill” with leading hoteliers and investors; the ticketed “Boutique Design Power Players: Women Leaders in Hospitality Breakfast and Panel Discussion” with forward-thinking female executives; “Up-and-Coming Hoteliers” with visionaries in the lifestyle sector; and “Brand Central” with masterminds behind leading and emerging hotel brands.

What’s ‘New in New York’

The signature “New in New York” session invites attendees to learn the secrets of some of the year’s high-profile hospitality debuts, including The Beekman hotel in Lower Manhattan’s historic Temple Court Building. Panelists include Gian Gaglione, Associate, Martin Brudnizki Design Studio; Robin Mackay, Project Manager, Dakota Development; and Alessandro Munge, Principal/Interior Designer, Studio Munge. Boutique Design Editor Matthew Hall will moderate.

Held concurrently with HX: The Hotel Experience (formerly IHMRS), the BDNY trade fair combines inventive elements for hospitality interiors with signature educational and social events; NYC design tours; unique, on-floor Designed Spaces created by leading hospitality design firms; and an extensive conference program.

Now in its seventh year, BDNY will expand to 100,000 square feet of exhibit space for 2016, with 600+ manufacturers and marketers of furniture, fixtures, lighting, seating, wall coverings, accessories and other design elements for hospitality interiors. More than 7,000 hospitality design professionals from the eastern United States, Canada and Europe are expected to attend.
