AVON LAKE, OHIO – SporiCLEAN, the green enzyme cleaner used to eliminate mold and mildew, is one of the chief products being used in cleanup efforts throughout Cedar Rapids and other parts of flood-ravaged Iowa. A multi-enzyme formulation, SporiCLEAN is an all-natural plant-based green cleaning product that is safe for the environment and effective in killing organisms.

“There are no chemicals in SporiCLEAN, so it’s environmentally safe for hygienically cleaning the home or business,” says Nick Martello, CEO of US Biologics, Inc., exclusive provider of SporiCLEAN. “Unlike toxic bleach, SporiCLEAN is non-toxic, non-caustic and non-harmful to people, pets and plants. The bottom line is that when cleaning with caustic chemicals (such as bleach), the ‘roots’ (also known as hyphae) of the mold will still exist and quickly re-grow. When using the SporiCLEAN multi-enzyme formulation, you are thoroughly breaking down and completely destroying the entire microorganism down to the roots. This eliminates any further growth potential.

“People have grown up thinking that bleach will solve all cleaning and mold problems, but that’s simply not true,” Martello adds. “Bleach is a poisonous chemically-based solution. It burns, leaches and is potentially hazardous not only to the user, but to the interior and exterior of the home. Bleach is classified as a volatile chemical that off-gasses and does not kill the mold and mildew.”

EPA Toxic Chemical Warning

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the use of toxic chemicals to disinfect organisms such as mold (for example, chlorine bleach) is not recommended. This is because, in most cases, the chemical solution merely moves the debris around—and the low level embedded mold roots will remain and grow back. To completely remove and solve a mold cleanup situation, the embedded roots must be destroyed to stop further re-growth.

The major ingredient in SporiCLEAN is a multi-enzyme formulation that consists of protease, amylase, lipase, cellulose and carbohydrate, along with several sub-level enzymes and a blend of organic coconut oil. Together, these multi-enzymes are capable of gently, but effectively, destroying mold, bacteria, viruses and household germs.

Martello is a stakeholder in the Green Seal GS-37 Revision Technical Group. Founded in 1989, Green Seal provides science-based environmental certification standards that are credible, transparent, and essential in an increasingly educated and competitive marketplace. The organization’s industry knowledge and standards help manufacturers, purchasers, and end users alike make responsible choices that positively impact business behavior and improve quality of life.
