BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, MEXICO—Solmar Hotels & Resorts is implementing various sustainable actions every day of the year in favor of the care of the natural environment, environmental protection, and the preservation of the oceans.

During Earth Hour, a global event promoted by the World Fund for Nature (WWF) that consists of a voluntary blackout, they made a symbolic gesture to emphasize the importance of reducing the problem of climate change. They partially turned off the lights of the buildings in Grand Solmar Land’s End and Solmar Resort for one hour. During this time, flares and candles were lit in the shape of the Earth Hour logo, a large “60+” sign, to show support for the cause.

This is in addition to the year-round actions that Solmar Hotels & Resorts has in its properties, such as Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa and The Ridge at Playa Grande, where a system called Multistack has been installed that allows heating the water in the rooms without the need to use gas, which has represented a saving in CO2 emissions. Following the trend, a machine room with pre-filters has been installed, which has allowed a 65 percent decrease in water consumption.

Sun’s Heat is Stored

In Grand Solmar Land’s End, one of the Grupo Solmar properties, the sun’s heat is stored and used to heat the water in the rooms. In Solmar Resort and Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa, an essential change of lights in the pools was carried out, significantly reducing the voltage and energy usage.

Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & SpaGrand Solmar Pacific Dunes Resort Golf & Spa, and Playa Grande have unique seawater purification systems, promoting and improving the collection of water, contributing to the fight against overexploitation of local aquifers. Because seawater is abundant and drinkable through the desalination process, they have sufficient access to fresh water supply even during drought.

With the help of guests and the general public, Solmar Hotels & Resorts established a beach protection and preservation program that consists of cleaning campaigns where anyone can join to clean and maintain the seashore’s pristine condition.

Solmar Hotels & Resorts works daily with a commitment to the environment by implementing innovative objectives, goals, policies, and procedures that contribute to a comprehensive balance between society, business, and the environment, culminating in a sustainable business model. As part of this work, they created the Solmar Energy Committees that will focus on analyzing and optimizing water, liquid-petroleum gas, and electricity consumption by operating areas.
