ARLINGTON, VA.—The Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel announced that it has been awarded a Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). It has been verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). The property is owned by The JBG Companies of Chevy Chase, Md. and managed by Marriott International, Inc.

Renaissance Arlington Capital View opened in March 2011.  Since its inception, the property has always been designed to be LEED certified. The hotel’s LEED Gold certification is shared with the adjoining property, Residence Inn Arlington Capital View.

“On our one year anniversary this is not only a present for us, but for the environment and the Arlington community,” said Jerry Caliguire, general manager of Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel. “We are proud of this outstanding achievement in being recognized as an environmental leader. This LEED Gold certification along with our sophisticated eco-design and Renaissance Hotel’s distinctive service makes us one of the premiere destinations for green meetings and eco-travel.”

Green Building Good for Business

“It is gratifying to earn LEED Gold designation for this beautiful, high-profile property,” said Eileen Nacev, director of sustainability at The JBG Companies. “Developing and building Renaissance Arlington Capital View fits with our corporate philosophy that creating green and sustainable properties is good for the environment, good for business and enriches the community, too.”

“Renaissance Arlington Capital View’s LEED Gold certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO & founding chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The urgency of USGBC’s mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Renaissance Arlington Capital View serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish.”

LEED Gold certification of Renaissance Arlington Capital View was based on a number of green design and construction features that positively impact the project itself and the broader community.  Some of these features include: heat island reduction with green roof, guest bike program, ozone protection with chlorine-free refrigerant, recyclable storage and collection, on-site carbon dioxide monitoring, use of low-emitting materials, energy efficient glass and lighting, and more than 26 percent of building was made from post-consumer recycled material.

Renaissance Arlington Capital View joins Marriott International’s portfolio of 90 properties that are registered or certified LEED.
